UPR 2016 Joint Tanzania CSOs Report

The UPR is a unique State-driven process which involves a review of the human rights records of all UN Member States. The ultimate aim of this mechanism is to improve the human rights situation in all countries and address human rights violations wherever they occur.  The first round of UPR to assess Tanzania Government was conducted on 3rd October 2011 where 107 recommendations were full accepted, 33 recommendations were partially accepted  and the remaining 4 recommendations were referred for further consideration or rejection.

On 25th April 2016, Tanzania will be assessed in the second round of UPR.  Since 2012 Tanzania Local CSOs engaged into the process of assessing the Government of Tanzania on  level of implementation of the above recommendations for the period of 2012 - 2015. More than 107 local CSOs engaged in various capacities under coordination of Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition with collaborative  efforts from various sources including Pastoralist Programme and PINGOs Forum. The joint 107 CSOs from Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar  came up with UPR 2016 Joint CSOs report. The report was submitted to UN Council for discussion before the review session.
