Radio Program on Wildlife Management Areas and Loliondo
Submitted by Website Officer on 1 April 2011 - 6:30pm
On March 21-23, TNRF and the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) hosted a workshop in Longido for traditional pastoralist. At this workshop there was a strong focus on Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) and the land use conflict going on in Loliondo. A summary of the program was aired on national radio.
The Longido workshop was a continuation of other workshops held over the past two years, which have focused on building the capacity of community leaders so that they are informed about laws and issues that affect and relate to their land andnatural resources and their development as a whole.
The workshop began with a discussion amongst the attendees, which included three MP’s, on these various issues. However, on the first day of the workshop, participants mainly focused on land and ownership issues. This discussion led to a more focused dialogue on WMAs, and different opinions emerged.
