Call for proposal 

Terms of Reference (ToR): Facilitating Education and awareness raising of population in Climate change impact, adaptation and mitigation; and development of Climate change strategy in 3 WMAs

Facilitate community education and awareness Lake Natron, Mkomazi wildlife corridors (Mwanga and Same districts), development of climate change adaptation strategy, action plans and adoption of the approved plans in Enduimet, Ikona and Makao WMAs.

Position: Facilitator

Start Date: Immediately for a period of 3 weeks

Coverage Area: Northern Tanzania Enduimet, Ikona, Makao, Lake Natron WMAs and Mkomazi Wildlife Corridor.

Project Overview

The project is implemented with WWF Tanzania and Tanzania Natural Resource Forum (TNRF) as a partner. The main objective of project is addressed by the following four concrete project outputs and corresponding packages of measures focussing on the Enduimet, Ikona, Makao and Lake Natron Wildlife Management Areas and two additional project sites in Mwanga and Same districts.

  1. Capacities of community conservation and management areas are strengthened to effectively improve their climate resilience and adaptation and effective protection of their biodiversity and ecosystems
  2. Capacities of communities for implementing climate-smart approaches are improved and household incomes diversified leads to improved livelihoods and well-being of the communities in the selected community conservation areas

Tanzania Natural Resource Forum (TNRF) under the project “Climate Change Adaptation” on March 2nd to March 4th, 2021 visited the Mkomazi Wildlife Corridor through the Districts of Same and Mwanga.

In Same District the TNRF team was able to meet both the District Commissioner (DC) and the District Executive Director (DED), to discuss about the project as well as the impacts it will have on the District. In the discussion with the Hon. Rosemary Staki Senyamule, (Same DC) she acknowledged that due to climate change there is increased cases in human wildlife conflicts and visible environmental destructions. As for the DED, Dr Anastasia Tutuba, she wanted to know how the project was going to be implemented, and how long it will take for the proposed dam to be finished. Her concerns were addressed by the Project Officer by giving the updated status of the project and the progress.

INVITATION TO SUPPLY MATERIALS FOR PREDATOR PROOF BOMAS - READVERTISED

TNRF intends to apply part of its budgetary allocation to fund eligible payments under the contract of the project to supply materials for constructing predator proof bomas in Enduimet, Ikona, Makao and Lake Natron WMAs to reduce human-wildlife conflicts caused by wildlife predators on livestock to communities and thus improve community livelihoods.

PUBLIC DEBATE AND MOBILE LEGAL AID IN KILOSA DISTRICT

Through the survey conducted by TNRF it was observed that Kilosa District has history of resource related conflicts especially on land tenure security. These conflicts are caused by social, economic and political factors and brought tension between land users i.e farmers and pastoralists and communities and investors. To address the challenge TNRF adopted lesson learnt and best practices from Iringa rural and Chemba District where project was implemented before scaled up to Kilosa and Kiteto Districts.

What have been done in Kilosa District

TNRF together with Kilosa District officials conducted number of activities on community’s sensitization on land governance and management of Natural Resources such as Training of village leaders and election of Land right monitors, training of Land Right Monitors. From 1st to 5th February, 2021 the team conducted public debate and mobile legal aid in four villages: Mambegwa, Mbigiri, Mvumi and Mfulu training based on land laws, disputes resolution mechanisms, women land right, administration system at village level and later on the legal aid was provided to individual with land related issues.
